BMI organized an all-star panel of songwriting experts for its Songwriting 101: Know Them Now discussion, held September 28 at Kennesaw State University, 20 miles north of Atlanta. Featuring hit writers India Shawn of Full Circle (Lloyd, Chris Brown, Diddy Dirty Money), Shama "Sak Pase" Joseph of the Jugganauts (Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West), REO of the Sound Killers (Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé), and JR Get Money of the Building (Lupe Fiasco, Diggy Simmons, Plies), the conversation covered how to pitch songs; making the decision to work hard -- and sticking with it; the importance of forming strong relationships; how BMI can support aspiring songwriters; the art of actually writing a hit; and much more. BMI's Byron Wright, Director of Writer/Publisher Relations, served as moderator.
