Born in 1982, Lesley-Anne discovered a passion for music from an early age. Her first public solo performance came at the age of seven when she performed live on air at the Radio Clyde Roadshow in Callender Park, Falkirk. She performed the Kylie Minogue track ‘Better the devil you know’ and was well and trully bitten by the performance bug. At the age of twelve, Lesley-Anne began writing poetry on a regular basis, and had various pieces published in local newspapers. It was also at this age when she joined the world renowned West Lothian Youth Theatre and performed with them in various productions, including their 1996 Edinburgh Festival Production, ‘Evil Devil Elvis’. Lesley-Anne spent her teenage years listening to dance acts such as TTF, QFX, Q- Tex, N-Trance and Mary Kiani. A music genre introduced to her by the late Tom Wilson in his radio forth shows. She also listened to and was inspired by the song writing of acts such as Ocean Colour Scene and the Goo Goo Dolls. This eclectic taste in music is still evident in Lesley-Anne to this day. In 1998 Lesley-Anne left school at the age of 15 and began a course in Drama with theatre Arts. And spent the next four years performing in various talent showcases and competitions. In the summer of 2001, Lesley-Anne recorded her first vocal demo with a local dance producer . And through listening to his work decided that dance music was the area of music she wanted to move into. And so aimed to do this in a performance and writing sense. In 2005, Lesley-Anne met Paul Gallagher formerly of Chill FM and through volunteering help at various club events organised by him, she earned studio time with Sean Mack, also of Chill FM. They wrote a song called ThankU together, Lesley-Anne creating the top line and melody and Sean creating the music production around it. This song was played out live on the Mark Martin Hitlist show on Radio Forth and received good feedback from the listeners. After this, Lesley-Anne went on to work on this track and another with Hardcore producer and DJ, Joey Riot, for Paul Gallagher’s new project X Control. It was also at this time she began to network with more producers, creating top line melodies and lyrics for them to produce. She began working using the alias of ellie jay, (a play on her initials and the alias she used to submit her poetry to newspapers in her teenage years.) Her track ‘Butterfly’ with Alan Aztec also received airplay on Radio Forth and received great feedback from the listeners. Lesley-Anne has since worked on songs with various producers. And is constantly building her song writing catalogue. She can write for any style of music and on any subject. In November 2007 Lesley-Anne was nominated for the Tom Wilson award at the Radio Forth awards in Edinburgh. She won, and was presented her award by Kelly Llorenna. Her award included a grant of £1000 to be used to help her career in music. Now 26, Lesley-Anne hopes to continue to build her song writing repertoire and in the future intends to further establish her name in the dance music scene.
