Release Info:
Operating out of the cosmopolitan Sydney in the southeastern Australian coast, Matt Rowan's music credentials have risen alongside a host of fellow countrymen who have shaped the modern electronic dance scene, from mainstream to underground. A triumphant recent return to the scene after a year long hiatus, brought the stunning, "Why Do You Love Me?" EP to Proton Music, while Particles is now also treated to latest flurry of production activity from Matt Rowan's creative mind as we are delighted to announce the release of a further quartet of tracks in the form of the "Cantstandya" EP. Coupled with an impressive production career, the dance amphitheatres of world have played an integral role in extending Rowan's success beyond his home shores, and an early residency at the "SweetChilli" night in Sydney opened the doors for a successful DJ career that has seen air miles racked up alongside appearances with Chris Fortier, Steve Porter and Luke Fair. Given a classically trained musicianship, it is not difficult to understand a sustained interest in the field of music beyond the traditional realms. However, the tenacity to then translate those skills successfully into
the dance arena has illustrated Rowan's ability to traverse a pit fallen path with poise and grace. An impressive catalogue of releases for high profile imprints - from Hope and Curvve to Armada and Plusquam - has seen Matt Rowan's work, alongside Jaytech, licensed to Dave Seaman compilations for Renaissance, while support for his work has come from all quarters, including, Armin van Buuren, James Zabiela and Max Graham. Opening "Cantstandya", the title-track provides a chunky, rhythmic journey as bold angular beats play alongside a distorted and filtered bass line. As the track evolves under Rowan's graceful stewardship, a glossy Kraftwerk-esque arpeggio plays atop with house stabs and staccato vocal cut completing the picture. "Sorted" mirrors the same chunky beat-laden themes of its predecessor as looped vocal stabs bring forth a smooth bass groove. Airy stabs then reach a crescendo before a muted arpeggio piques interest with its random pitch placements. A confident dance floor offering ensures that "Sorted" will keep club audiences fully satisfied. Bringing another moment of dance-floor magic with retro undertones into sharp "Relief", subtle melodic interplay combines with luscious rhythmic plucks as the dynamism established by a series of percussive shakers and strong house beats keep energy to the fore. Aptly named, "Feelin' Good" represents the final quarter of an impressive whole. High in vim and vigour, driven by a chorus of percussion rhythms that provide house credentials, a bed of grooved stabs alternate with a delicious piano motif, reminding us of Rowan's classical background and creating a richly layered offering. With four further tracks lighting up Matt Rowan's return Particles, "Cantstandya" is a reaction far from the minds of the underground faithful.
