Emcee and producer for San Francisco hiphop/rap group BPos, D-Wiz recently upgraded from a AKAI MPD 24 to a MASCHINE so of course I had to go over to the studio and film some footage of him getting down on some beats. He sampled some reggae for a hot dub type hip-hop beat, and then he sample some Esther Phillips for another smooth instrumental.

BPos (which also includes rapper Goodword and DJ Johnny Venetti) put out their mixtape the Pos Tapes Volume 1 last September, to great reviews. That mixtape featured all original production from the legendary Big Shawn of Bored Stiff (who will be featured on Episode 56 of Under The Bay on Thizzler On The Roof). They are currently finishing up the Pos Tapes Volume 2, which should hopefully be released sometime in March. It ain't no Lil Wayne or Drake type music though, this is real gritty San Francisco underground hip-hop.

Dwiz has also been featured on the video interview series Under The Bay, a Bay Area weekly series focusing on dope up and coming artists and their music. Other artists featured include San Quinn, Traxamillion, The Grouch, Erk Tha Jerk, Nump, Drew Deezy, Opio, Mistah FAB, Roach Gigz, DaVinci, Nio Tha Gift, Casual (of Hieroglyphics), Dex Beats (producer of San Quinn's "Rockin Up Work" among other songs), Balance (known for his song "Swagga Jackin" aka "Please Do Not Swagger Jack Me" among others), Truthlive, Richie Cunning and QM of Rec-League, Rafael Casal (who was on Def Poetry Jam season 4 and is now part of the Getback crew), Seneca, The Dime, Big A, and Ammbush of the Oakland Faders, Street Media and SWTBRDs aka Sweetbreads Collective.

Jermaine Dupri uses a MV8000, Just Blaze uses an MPC4000, Kanye West uses an MPC 2000 and an ASR10 keyboard, Pete Rock uses a MPC2000 XL (although he used to use a SP1200), RIck Rock uses a MPC2500 and a MPC2000xl, J Dilla used to use a MPC3000 and Madlib uses whatever he wants. MF Doom uses a MPC2000, but used to use a MPC60. AKAI MPD24 sampler pads.
