SUNTEARS (Info)

Der Bandname SUNTEARS klingt zunächst etwas widersprüchlich. Genau diese Spannung zwischen den Worten ‚Sonne’ und ‚Tränen’ aber war es, die den Brüdern Andy und Marcus Fechner auf Anhieb gefiel. Nun darf man sich natürlich gerne die Frage stellen, was die Wortkombination eigentlich bedeuten soll. „Die Sonne steht für Wärme, Licht oder kurz: das Leben. Die Tränen sind nicht zwangsläufig Tränen des Schmerzes, sondern können auch Tränen der Freude oder Rührung sein. Wir möchten mit unserer Musik die Momente des Lebens einfangen, für die es sich zu leben lohnt.“ So klingen die Songs dann auch: warm, lebendig und melodiös. Zumeist von einer feinen Melancholie durchsetzt, welche die Klangwelt der SUNTEARS vollendet.

Die beiden Fechners, seit vielen Jahren für das Songwriting der Band eleVate verantwortlich, erfüllen sich mit den „SUNTEARS“ einen lange gehegten Wunsch. „Wir hatten schon immer eine Menge Songs in der Schublade, welche sich nur teilweise und dann auch eher als Exoten in den Rocksound von eleVate einfügen ließen.“ Jene Songs sind persönlicher und eher dem Bereich der Singer und Songwriter zugeordnet. Die Kompositionen entstanden größtenteils auf traditionellen Instrumenten wie der Akustikgitarre oder dem Klavier. Erst während der Aufnahmen kamen schließlich auch Bass, Schlagzeug, elektrische Gitarren und diverse Zupfinstrumente zum Einsatz. „Wir möchten uns musikalisch nicht limitieren, wobei die klangliche Authentizität ganz oben auf unserer Prioritätenliste steht. Da sich die Arbeit im Studio nicht nach einem Soloprojekt anfühlte, sondern eher nach einem gemeinsamen Bandprojekt, wählten wir statt unserer persönlichen Namen mit SUNTEARS auch gleich einen richtigen Bandnamen.“

Mit den Songs der SUNTEARS eröffnen Andy und Marcus Fechner ein neues Kapitel ihres gemeinsamen musikalischen Schaffens.

The band name SUNTEARS may sound confusing. But it was exactly the contradiction that exists between the words “sun” and “tears” which instantly appealed to the brothers Andy and Marcus Fechner. Of course, the question can be posed as to what is actually meant by this unusual word combination. “The sun stands for warmth and light – in a nutshell, life. The tears aren’t necessarily tears of pain. They could also be tears of joy or emotion. We want to capture moments like these in our music, moments which are worth living for.” And this is just how the songs sound: warm, lively and melodic, tempered with a touch of melancholy that makes SUNTEARS complete.
Through SUNTEARS, a long cherished wish is being fulfilled for the two brothers, who were responsible for the songwriting in their band eleVate. “We always had a lot of songs in the bottom drawer which either didn’t quite fit eleVate’s rocky sound or were just completely way out.” Songs like these are more personal and belonged more in the singer songwriter genre. These compositions mainly came about using traditional instruments such as acoustic guitar or piano. It was only during recording that bass, drums, electric guitar and various plucked instruments came to be used. “We don’t want to limit ourselves musically but a tonal authenticity is definitely a priority. As the studio work was less of a solo project and more of a band project, we went for SUNTEARS as a proper band name straight away, as opposed to using our own personal names.”
With the songs of SUNTEARS, Andy and Marcus Fechner have opened a new chapter of their musical creativity.
