Lauren Molina is a New York City singer/songwriter, Broadway actress, musician, and artist. Her quirky, playful indie folk/pop songs combine clever lyrics, peppered with lush harmonies, using ukulele, guitar, cello, and piano, to create bittersweet and pleasing tunes.
Teaming up with Mother West Studios, Selectracks/Bug Music and NY Noise studios, Lauren has written music for commercials, including Dannon Yogurt, and her song “Sky and the Sea” was featured on NBC’s show “Parenthood”. Lauren’s first self-released EP was released in 2007, entitled,"Doo-Be-Doo".
Lauren made her mark on Broadway, starring as the cello playing Johanna in the critically acclaimed revival of "Sweeney Todd", winning the Independent Reviewers of New England Award, Best Supporting Actress 2007. One of the celebrated “30 Under 30”, featured on Broadwayspace.com, her other major credits include Regina in the 80s hair metal rock musical, “Rock of Ages” on Broadway and Off.
She is currently playing Cunegunde in “Candide” directed and re-written by Mary Zimmerman at the Goodman Theatre, which opens September 17th, 2010.
A featured singer in the "The Ladies Who Sing Sondheim" concert along with Barbara Cook, Patti Lupone, and Kristin Chenoweth, she also performed with Sarah Brightman on the La Luna tour. She is also a co-creator of the zany improv comedy webseries, ROCK OF AGES PRODUCTIONS.
She has performed on “The Today Show”, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “Regis and Kelly”, and the “60th and 63rd Annual Tony Awards”.
Growing up in Detroit with a classical bass playing father and ballet dancing mother, Lauren was constantly immersed in the arts. She began playing piano at 4yrs, and cello at 9yrs. In high school, she taught herself how to play guitar on her dad's old classical guitar, and began writing folk pop songs. In college, she purchased a Martin DM acoustic, which she still plays today.
