DESCRIPTION:
Let's talk about Final Fantasy Tactics's faith system and listen to a sax cover of Desert Land (now available on GameLark's Mog's Mixtape!)

In Final Fantasy Tactics, there are two mechanics that subtly affect a wide range of stats and unit performance: "Brave" and "Faith". To put it simply, brave generally affects physical traits, while faith affects magic. The interesting thing about faith is that it not only affects casting ability (one's ability to use magic), but it also affects one's ability to be affected *by* magic. So, magic (both good and bad) is more powerful against individuals with higher faith, while it is is less effective against individuals with lower faith (and those who are "atheists" are completely unaffected by magic).

Another wrinkle with brave and faith is that if brave gets too *low* for a character, then he will desert the army (too afraid to fight in war). However, for faith, it's reversed -- if faith gets too *high* for a character, they will become disillusioned with the military, and will leave as well.

During this cover of Desert Land from the Final Fantasy Tactics OST, let's discuss what it would likely feel like for an atheist to enter Ivalice and experience the magic of "Flare" for the first time. In this conversation, we'll touch lighly upon the moral burdens that faith can place on a wizard.
