Stoned Kings were formed in the Summer of 2000 by original members Big Rasc, Chokie, and Duke Diggla in Yakima, Washington. A lot of people ask “Where is that?” but are surprised to find out that Yakima which is situated in the South Central part of the state is a hotbed of activity (both legal and illegal). Referred to as the “Palm Springs of Washington” for its excellent climate. Yakima is also home to CBA Basketball Champions the Sun Kings and has given us such notable residents as singer Oleta Adams, comedian Sam Kinison, actor Kyle MacLachlan and now…Stoned Kings.
Stoned Kings spent the first five years of their career as local celebrities in their hometown by rubbing elbows with all the big wigs who came through from Baby Bash to Young Buck to E-40 to Chingo Bling. Due to a lack of a local music scene, Stoned Kings founder Big Rasc decided to create one himself and went out and bought a home recording studio and started to make their first album himself. The end result was the locally successful “Now What” which featured GOLD selling Jay Tee from N2DEEP and Latino Velvet fame as well as Mr. Kee and Riderlife.
The most recent member to join the group is Bedoya who originally hails from Salem, Oregon. Bedoya met founder Big Rasc through a mutual friend in 2001 and they continued to stay in contact and talk about music. As the years went on the two clicked and Bedoya was added to the roster in 2006 to round out this Latino rap “powerhouse”.
Stoned Kings embarked last year on creating the first project (although it is their second release) that they felt they could really be promote to the masses. The album entitled “Dat New Swagg”, denotes the whole new style that the group has developed and the confidence to go with it. Love ballads, Reggaeton, club hits and slow grooves make this album a well rounded project. When asked about the direction the group was going in, member/founder Big Rasc had this to say “We are Latins there is no doubt about that, so we are proud to be a part of the recent Latin explosion and hope that we can also benefit from it and get our music and message to the people but our music also mixes some Southern vibes, Bay Area styles, reggaeton, you name it! So we feel this album can be for anyone who enjoys good music. Latins, Whites, Blacks, Natives, Asians…we’re here for everybody.”
The fellas latest endeavor will be coming out this year on a “surprise” label as the group is still working out the particulars. With features from Baby Bash, Russell Lee, David Wade, Gemini, and too many more to list…this album is going to be a definite classic. Stay tuned….
