DESCRIPTION:
The Smithsonian Folkways Recordings documentary team of audio engineer Pete Reiniger, video producer Charlie Weber, and Curator Daniel Sheehy is in Colombia recording the regional musical traditions—bambuco, torbellino, pasillo, guabina, and more--collectively known in Colombia as música andina, Andean music. Eleven musicians will take part, presenting local substyles from throughout the region. The result will be a Smithsonian Folkways release, accompanied by short videos that will stream on the website and various social media sites.

This video was taken outside the Audiovisión in Bogotá. It features three outstanding representatives of the new generation of musicians. Left to right, Carlos Vásquez plays the 12-string tiple, Diego Saboya plays the 12-string bandola andina, and his brother Daniel Saboya plays the 6-string guitar. They interpret “El Tato,” one of the tracks from the upcoming album.
