Cultura was created back in 1990 by Raymond & Anthony Lucero as a father/son duo. During that time other musicians were invited to jam and that became what is now know as Cultura. The first release entitled “Mi Carro Del Ano” was Cultura’s first original song and was written by the father/son duo in 1994. The song hit 2 on the New Mexico music charts on KANW 89.1 and remained there for some time.

The band split up for awhile in 1997. During that time Anthony went on to play with Darren Cordova y Calor and collaborated with other musicians for a short time. A few years later Anthony decided to put Cultura back together. This time around, welcoming a whole new spectrum of musicians with a new and exciting sound.

Cultura presently considers themselves to be very blessed to be reunited with old friends. It has kept that “family circle” within the group. Band members have know and performed with each other since high school and are now reunited as Cultura. With all members being under 30 years of age, Cultura is considered to be one of New Mexico’s youngest bands. Cultura has a tight new chemistry and an original sound that sets themselves apart from most New Mexico groups. There’s a reason why…

•Nathaniel “Darkness” Martinez is the groups Keyboard/Accordion player and backup vocalist. He has played with groups such as, La Gente, Querida and many others. Nate brings to the group a new sound and background with his Tajano or Tex-Mex like keyboard and Accordion licks.

•Micheal Salazar is the groups dummer and backup vocalist. He brings more then 15 years of experiance to the group. Mike has played rock, heavy metal and now spanish. He has been a long time member of the group and has now returned with a new found energy. His style of playing and unorthadox beats leave fans wanting more. His experiance and drumming style gives Cultura a unique and authentic New Mexico sound.

•Chris Roybal plays Saxophone for the group. He is one of the younger members of the band who started jamming right out of high school and had been with the group for 4 years. He contributes so much to the group with his beautiful sound on the sax. He writes and arranges pieces to give the group a full horn section sound.

•Joseph Lujan is the youngest and newest member of the Cultura familia. Starting right out of high school, Joe has been playing guitar with the group a little over a year now. Joe has been playing guitar for many years and brings a good clean sound to the group.

•Andrea Lucero is the group’s female vocalist. Andrea started off singing mariachi music at a young age. She joined the group in 2002 and sings on a variety of songs. Andrea was recently honored to be nominated for Female Vocalist of The Year by the New Mexico Hispanic Music Association’s annual awards show. Her powerful voice is a trademark of the Cultura sound.

•Anthony “Bones” Lucero, one of the groups founding members is the bass player and vocalist. He had been playing music since he was very young and is versatile in many instruments. His funky bass style spices up the music and ties it all together. Aside from being the leader of the band, Anthony also arranges the music, engineers the groups albums, and has also written a number of songs for the group including “Mi Carro Del Ano”, “Mi Destino”, “No Quiero Estar Sin Ti” and the newest “Senor Cantinero” and “Vida Mia”.

Cultura has done extremely well this past year with a very great public response. They have opened up and shared the stage for some of New Mexico’s biggest acts including Al Hurricane & Al Hurricane Jr., and Los Blue Ventures. Cultura has traveled throughout New Mexico and Colorado. There is talk of the band possibly traveling to other surrounding states in the year to come promoting their latest release “Cuatro”.

Wrap all that up and you have Cultura! With a wide array of different music, sounds and musicians, it is a sound unlike and unique to any other band in New Mexico. The musicians are very original themselves and have a variety of musical backgrounds and influences. The Cultura family really is a family. Members are all very close and spend time away from the music together. Cultura is dedicated to keeping the New Mexico music traditions alive. The name ‘Cultura’ sums it all up! The one thing Cultura asks is to show you who they are, let them entertain you and let the music speak for itself!
