Originaire du Saguenay, Clément Jacques s'investit dès l'école secondaire en musique. Au Collègue d'Alma, il suit des cours de batterie. Son parcours académique se poursuit avec une formation en chant jazz à l'Université de Laval à Québec. C'est aussi dans la capitale, qu'il obtient un permis de musicien de rue et sillonne les rues et resto-bars achalandés avec sa guitare. Au début de la vingtaine, Clément prend un virage folk et, appuyé d'un producteur indépendant, lance un mini-album de 5 chansons Smile for a while (2006), vendu à 3000 exemplaires. Enrichi d'un stage d'écriture à Los Angeles, il s'enferme en studio avec le réalisateur Éloi Painchaud (Jorane, Antoine Gratton) pour pondre un magnifique album en anglais Consumed and guilty (2009, Audiogram) d'où découlent d'excellentes critiques, ainsi qu'une tournée de spectacles. Installé depuis peu à Montréal, il démarre alors un cycle de création, en français cette fois, qui s'articule autour des rencontres amoureuses, un thème en résonance avec sa propre quête personnelle. Avec son complice Éloi Painchaud, qui cosigne les arrangements et la réalisation, il crée un album intimiste de treize pièces, Le Maréographe, qui évoque les marées du cœur ressenties par un homme à la recherche de la femme idéale. Totalement investi dans le processus de production, Clément joue la plupart des instruments qu'on entend sur le disque. Muni d'une plume à la fois sensible et vraie, d'une voix prenante, d'un sens indéniable de la mélodie, Clément Jacques nous fait entrer dans son univers folk acoustique où se côtoient espoir et mélancolie. Le premier extrait, Ariane, a vite séduit les radios à sa sortie printanière.
Born in Saguenay, Clément Jacques commits to music early in adolescence. During his years at the Alma College, he learns the drums. He then pursues his academic background with singing classes in Jazz at the Laval University in Quebec. During his stay in the Capitol, he also acquires a street musician permit and performs in the busy streets and bars with his guitar. In his early twenties, Clement turns to folk music and, with the help of an independant producer, launches a 5 song mini-album, Smile for a while (2006) which sold 3000 copies. He soon follows up with Consumed and guilty (2009, Audiogram), produced by Eloi Painchaud (Jorane, Antoine Gratton) and tours across the province. After settling in Montreal, he returns to writing, but this time in French, drawing inspiration from past relations, a theme that resonnates with his personnal quest. Again with coproducer Eloi Painchaud, who also contributed to the album's arrangements, he creates Le Maréographe (The Tide Gauge), an intimite album of the 13 songs evoquing a young man's conditions of the heart – like movements of the tide - in search of the ideal woman. Entirely involved in the production, Clément plays most of the instruments on the album. His lyrics are sensible and true, his voice is captivating with an undeniable sense of melody. Clément Jacques invites us into his folk acoustic world where hope and melancholy go hand in hand. His first single, Ariane quickly seduced the radiowaves last spring.
