Carter USM - Sheriff Fatman Live at the Brixton Academy 1991 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 17, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Two things about Sheriff Fatman. First. They DON'T sing the words "more anuses than Klaus Barbie".
Secondly, at the end of the song on this clip, Mssrs Morrison and Carter go off on a riffola spree. But it is NOT the riff to Down Down by Status Quo as much as it sounds like it. The fact you can sing "down down deeper and down" to it don't enter into it. It's a dead argument. It has ceased to be. It was improv. Okay?
This is Les Fruitbat Carter and Jim Bob Morrison.... otherwise known as Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine playing for many their signature song, Sheriff Fatman at their Brixton Academy 1991 gig.
All the fans worth anything have the actions down to this one.
This is official (non mobile phone their weren't any then, or if they were they were too big and incapable of taking footage) footage of the gruesome twosome in their heyday.
Starting off as Jamie Wednesday... they made their name with a distinctive style of power pop, fusing samples, sequenced basses and drum machines with rock 'n' roll guitars and off-beat wordplay-loaded lyrics. They reached the height of their fame in 1991 and 92. Over the following years the band took on new members, topping out as a six-piece, but struggled to regain their earlier popularity. They initially split up in 1998 after releasing seven albums.
They have come together for one off gigs, the last being sell out gigs in London in November 2009, titled "The Drum Machine Years". Over the course of two nights the band played their first four albums in their entirety, plus encores.
Now the USMs are back for two concerts in November, 2011 at Brixton and Manchester, known as Norf and Sarf 2011. It'll be RUBBISH!

Now, Sheriff Fatman started out
In business, a granny farmer
He was infamous for fifteen minutes
And he appeared on Panorama

But then he somehow got himself on board
The Starship Enterprise Allowance Scheme
With a Prince of Wales award
For pushing Valium and amphetamines

Moving up on second base
Behind Nicholas Van Wotsisface
Six foot six and a hundred tons
The undisputed king of the slum

More aliases than Klaus Barbie
The master butcher of Leigh-on-Sea
Just about to take the stage
The one and only, hold the front page

Fatman's got something to sell
To the capital's homeless
At the Crossroads Hotel
For the no-fixed-aboders

Where you can live life in style
You can sleep in a closet
And if you flash him a smile
He'll take your teeth as deposit

There's bats in the belfry
The windows are jammed
The toilets ain't healthy
He don't give a damn

He chuckles and smiles
Laughs like a madman
Born again Rachman
Here comes Sheriff Fatman

With his Valium, amphetamines
His sick notes and his phony prescriptions
And just when you thought it was safe
To go back into the kitchen

Dead legs and cracked heads
Bunk-beds and breakfasts
Wake up you sleepy heads
Check this

Moving up on second base
Behind Nicholas Van Wotsisface
Six foot six and a hundred tons
The undisputed king of slum

More aliases than Klaus Barbie
The master butcher of Leigh-on-Sea
Just about to take the stage
The one and only, hold the front page

Moving up now to take the place
Of Nicholas Van Wotsisface
Six foot six and a hundred tons
The undisputed king of the slums

More aliases than Klaus Barbie
The master butcher of Leigh-on-Sea
In a hatchback from Notre Dame
The one and only Sheriff Fatman

There goes another left hook and now I'm losing my patience
Someone call up Roger Cook and the United Nations
He's buying up houses for the has beens and helpless
From Lands End to South end to Chelsea

There's bats in the belfry
The windows are jammed
The toilets ain't healthy
He don't give a damn

He just chuckles and smiles
Laughs like a madman
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Sheriff Fatman
Sheriff Fatman, Sheriff Fatman, Sheriff Fatman, brainchumps
