The Pace Report: "The Emcee's Breeding Ground" The Homeboy Sandman Interview - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 10, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
For well over a decade emcee Homeboy Sandman has had to work harder than most to keep his lyrical game and presence out there. The Queens native has leaped to the next phase of his career releasing his Stones Throw Records release "First of a Living Breed," he collaborated with some of hip-hop's finest producers including Jonwayne, J57, 6th Sense, Oddisee, and Oh No. He's also on tour opening for Brother Ali. This past summer Homeboy also reaped the success and gained new fans with his EP's "Subject: Matter" and "Chimera."

Even though he doesn't have the major media PR machine to back him, Homeboy has made a career of producing authentic rap at a time when the music has been dumbed down.

During the late 1990's Homeboy made is mark in the rap game and began developing his lyrical style and rise as a emcee by performing in the New York City underground rap scene. He was also hosted the "All That! Hip Hop, Poetry and Jazz" set along with DJ Bobbito. The former law student and teacher decided to follow his passion and pursue the music full-time during the mid-2000's which got Homeboy a lot of recognition at from The Source and Okayplayer.com. In 2007 he released his debut CD "Nourishment" to rave reviews.

A true lyricist at heart, Homeboy hails The Fresh Prince, LL Cool J, Redman and Kool G Rap as some of his major influences. He's a genuine and extremely down to earth person and has worked hard at keeping the pure elements of hip-hip in his music reflecting on both his growth as a person and on what's happening around the diaspora. In the years I've followed Homeboy he has never held his tongue on what's on his mind and never catered to the masses as far as selling his own soul to make music. He reflects the pure essence of what the hip-hop culture and music is all about and is always evolving unlike some of his musical contemporaries.

Make sure you support Homeboy and his DJ, DJ Sosa as they come to city near you. For upcoming tour dates or to order "First of a Living Breed," please visit him online at www.homeboysandman.com.
