- Most rock bands write about fate - Goddass embody it.
It's in their soul. It brought them together. The rest is history in the making.
It's not often that a band comes along that defines the age that we live in. Musically, sonically and lyrically Goddass is that band arriving now as we near the end of the one of most tumultuous years of recent times.
While there are many broad themes in the band's music it's all from a personal point of view. Chief songwriter and lyricist, Al Salerno has created a sound track for the end of 2011 but also has a positive message as we emerge, blinking and bleary eyed into 2012.
"The message of the song 'The Ages Come' and the video is about the losing of faith in one's self as the world gets darker and closes in but also the realisation that the impossible is possible if you have faith in what you do, the people around you and in yourself, the idea that you effect the world around you and not vice versa.
Brothers Al and T Salerno (drums) form the nucleus of the band adding a rich, dynamic punch to the bands sound that only blood brothers can provide: Al: "The musical relationship with T is very deep because we are brothers. We always played together and with different styles of music, we can get a perfect combination of rhythm part due to our background in funk and blues."
Al writes each song as an invitation to the listener to become involved: "For me every song has to be like a life, it has to have a development in it. Every song I write is like a movie, there is an idea in the background, to let the listener get into it deeply and see himself during the song. I think that this is the power of music, to let the listener live in it."
While Al lists the blues, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton as his main influences it's the strong musical backgrounds of each member that gives Goddass a musical flexibility that perhaps has been missing from many new bands during 2011. There are also touches of Paganini, Metallica and Guns & Roses in the music which become evident when the band performs live.
The band have actually been around in one form or another since 2004 but met their new vocalist, Henry Rundell (ex Voodoo Six) while out drinking in the pubs along the Thames in London's Limehouse district.
This anglo-fied powerhouse (also featuring school friend and bassist Vendra) joined up with highly acclaimed (and grammy nominated) English producer, Matt Hyde (Slipknot, The Glitterati). The dice was cast and this explosive cocktail of Italian power and British vocals sounds like some kind of dream team super car. Comparisons have already been made with Soundgarden and Bullet For My Valentine. Make your own mind up by going to, www.goddass.com and download the free 'Ages Come' EP.
Al sums up the bands philosophy: "To get to the soul of the listener you have to open their door. Some people have the keys to this door, others knock at the door, but we have to break down the door to get to them, that's what we do and why our music is so powerful."
EP release date on 17th December from www.goddass.com
