NOTE: In Poland in the 1930s Melodja-Electro was a cheap label, offspring of Syrena-Electro record company. In spite of that, their recording level as well as shellac quality did not differ much from Syrena products. According to my Father's story, in late 1930s you bought Melodja record for 1,5 zlotys = equiv. of ca 30 US cents, Syrena was 2,5 zl. and Polish prices for foreign quality labels e.g. American Victor or leading British companies HMV, Decca or Columbia were 3 -3,5 zlotys. In that time you could have a decent 2-course meal in a budget restaurant or bar for 3 zl., therefore and considering average Polish monthly salary e.g. of a postman = 100 zlotys, the record collecting was rather an expensive hobby. Salary of my Father, who was director of a higher school near Poznań, was over 600 zlotys plus bonuses (e.g. gasoline).
