DESCRIPTION:
Amateur video production with exceptional musicians balances out to an entertaining 1/2 hour of top shelf Jazz. The concept of "Jazz West" was to create a TV program that delivered the best west coast jazz players in an informal club type setting while getting to know them with brief interviews mixed in with their performances. It was conceived and produced by Otto Svoboda and directed by Joe Chess for a CSUN TV 240 production class taught by Tom Burrows. This program would of never materialized if it wasn't for the tremendous help and support of the "Voice of Jazz" himself, Bob Summers. Also, Mundell and his quintet are amazing players and great guys for participating in this program. And this would of never been posted on YouTube if it weren't for friend and colleague Jimmy Velarde (who was a cameraman on this gig). It was shot in the 80's at Valley Production Studios in Van Nuys with great support from Franky Bronell and the Lumbleau Real Estate Schools.
