Blues D'Ville - Balinese (Cover).mov - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 21, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Everyone knows the song Balinese by ZZ Top. The Balinese was a club down in Galveston, Texas. Many famous entertainers played there dating back into the 40's and 50's. The Maceos booked top stars at the Balinese Room. Headliners included Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Groucho Marx, Jack Benny, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Duke Ellington, Mel Torme, Jayne Mansfield and Gene Autry. Also appearing were Sophie Tucker, Joe E. Lewis, the Ritz Brothers, Peggy Lee, Marjorie Reynolds, Phil Harris, Guy Lombardo, Ted Mack, and Jimmy Dorsey. ZZ Top wrote the famous song "Balinese" in 1973: "And everybody knows, it was down at the Balinese." The Balinese Room Pier was completely destroyed by Hurricane Ike on Saturday, September 13, 2008.

The Blues D'Ville Band played up in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Sadly, this is the only recording I have of the band in studio. It was run on 4 tracks then the final or second lead (my lead) was added in Garage Band to complete the song. It was uploaded to our website along with images of our performances at "The Quarters" nightclub in Ruidoso using Flash. This production was put together in iMovie and exported. Sadly Blues D'Ville is no longer together.
To my old friends and band mates in New Mexico and now also in Colorado. Pam, you were supposed to come here to San Antonio and sing for our new band! Damn!
The Blues D'Ville site is no longer up on it's own domain but I have reproduced it on davidghorton.com
