Andrew Toovey - Winter Solstice Interlude with Sloth - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 28, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
This is the instrumental interlude from my piece Winter Solstice (1984, rev.1988) played by my IXION ensemble. It's for flute - Rowland Sutherland, oboe - Adrian Rowlands, clarinet - Andrew Smith, conga drum - Benjamin Morison, violin - Sharleen Harshenin, viola - John Rayson, cello - Kenneth Osborne and conductor - Michael Finnissy. Also at the end you'll hear a little of the vocal line sung by Elise Lorraine. This is part of the original performance from the Brighton Festival in 1988. You can hear the full piece (in two parts) with the music score to follow on youtube as well. The video of the Two Toed Sloth comes from a trip I made with Morgan Hayes to the Budapest Zoo in 2005. I love the slow way it makes it's way down the brances of the tree. Somehow this music fits it's fluid decent.
