A Festival of American Folk & Country Music 1966 - Video

DESCRIPTION:
"A Festival of American Folk & Country Music" was on tour in Europe in 1966. It was a show consisting of American rural music performed by the last of the authentic artists such as Roscoe Holcomb and Cousin Emmy, with the exception of "The New Lost City Ramblers", a trio with younger musicians with the dedication of keeping Old Time Music alive.

The concert in Bremen March 17, 1966, was recorded and many years later released in 2007 by Bear Family Records. But here is a rare opportunity to hear how it sounded live in Copenhagen, Denmark on march 16, 1966, the day before the Bremen concert!

This concert was recorded by The Danish Radio and transmitted a couple of weeks later.
My father recorded the transmission at home, and this tape is in my possession today.
I do not know if the master-tapes have survived. The Danish Radio sadly did not preserve such recordings back then.

My parents told me about the concert, and they recalled the great atmosphere.
From the humble, polite applause in the beginning of the show to the yelling, stomping and whistling later when Cyp Landrenaeu and Cousin Emmy performed.

And it seemed like the musicians had their own party going on backstage during intermission.
Chick Striplin, the bass player and comedian of the Clinch Mountain boys, performed his own "Johnson's Old Grey Mule" where he imitated the sounds of a mule. This wasn't in the Bremen concert. He have had too much to drink and could barely handle the bass, when he tried to step dance and whirl it around at the end of the number.

It didn't matter. Everybody was having a good time. It was an unforgettable evening.
This is the latter part of the show.
