Third in a series of soundtrack releases by Alexandra Benedict & Tris Taylor, Sleeping Lions comes packaged with new remixes by Neotropic and Benbo, and cover art by the film's director Oliver Crowther.

‘Sleeping Lions’ was composed without reference to picture.

Instead, Crowther briefed Benedict & Taylor with a list of estimated timings, and references to Tarkovsky and classic French cinema.

The film has remained unseen since its premiere at the Curzon Renoir in 2010.

The soundtrack is presented here in its entirety – a Debussy-esque waltz for piano, violin, Wurlitzer and percussion, set in a cocoon of sound effects and design – balloon bumps, dogs barking, and flagpoles in the wind.

Neotropic's remix refigures it as a stately, layered choral/found sound piece, building to almost-triumphant peaks before falling away into disorientating drones and faraway calls.

Benbo's remix submerges a 303, 808 and 909 under the waltz, creating bubbles of melancholic acid house to soundtrack a sad Ibizan pool party.

Tris Taylor trained on cello and saxophone before abandoning instruments in favour of decks and DJing alongside Freeform Five and Mixmaster Morris. Trading his records for his first studio in 2003, he has gone on to compose, produce and write with artists on four continents. http://tristaylor.com

Riz Maslen (Neotropic) is one of the most prominent composers working in post-techno experimental electronics. Her music has been released on Ninja Tune, Mush Recordings, Squid Eye and Architects and Heroes. Kew Gardens, Bow Arts Open and the ENO have commissioned and selected her sound design and composition work. Benbo's songs, productions and remixes have appeared on BBE, 2TUF 4U and Dizzy Tiger, and his drawings in Amelia's Magazine, No 1 Fake and on album covers for Selerac and Pan Electric.
