Peter Liu and the Pollcats are excited to release their vintage swing themed CD “Count On Lindy” on Friday, October 13, 2017, at a swing dance party hosted by the wonderful Ottawa Swing Dance Society at St. Joseph’s Church at 174 Wilbrod Street (at Cumberland St.), Ottawa, ON, Canada.

The 14-song album is a collection of some of the band’s best swing dance tunes, including creative interpretations of popular standards, lesser-known gems, and an original song, “Count On Lindy”. All will be performed, including the premiere of the music video for “Count On Lindy”. Joining the band are special guests from Jazz Line Vocal Quartet providing swinging harmony. Peter Liu & the Pollcats perform swing jazz music authentic to the Golden Age of jazz. Lindy Hop started in Harlem in the 1920s as a vigorous improvised dance form, and it co-evolved with swing music through swing dances to become the predominant form of entertainment during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Across the world, swing dancing has enjoyed growing popularity again, as people rediscover its charms, satisfying a craving for a simpler time of joy, connection, and freedom of expression. Peter Liu and the Pollcats aim to support and invigorate the flourishing swing dance community, and draw new interest to vintage swing jazz music. Channeling the thrilling energy and irresistible groove of the swing era, they are known for inspiring excitement and joy in both listeners and dancers.

In addition to playing regularly for the Ottawa Swing Dance Society, Peter Liu and the Pollcats have performed at the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Canadian Tulip Festival, the National Arts Centre, the Mackenzie King Estate and many other venues. They are the founders of the successful Ottawa SwingFest held at the Canadian War Museum. The Ottawa Swing Dance Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting swing dance and swing dancing culture in Ottawa, and they host dances each Friday night. Entry includes specialty and beginner dance lessons, and seating is available for listeners. Cover is $12 at the door, and CDs are available for $15.
