Africa Express leaving Middlesbrough Train Station 2012 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 04, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
The morning after the night before ... last night during the Middlesbrough Town Hall concert of the 80-odd musicians of the Africa Express, Damon Albarn invited the sell out crowd to come down to the train station for about 10.30am today, to wave goodbye to the Africa Express train and all who ride in it. Only a handful of Rizzle Kicks girlies, media types, and professional idlers made it, (plus a few bemused commuters who got caught in the percussive crossfire) but they were given a real treat by the musicians. Not bad for a workaday Tuesday morning! They continued the musical party onto the train and were playing live music as it pulled away, in the converted rehearsal carriage. Damon Albarn has had some pretty cool ideas in his musical career, but this one tops them all. Not even the Health & Safety Mafia could stop this one ... As George Clinton once rapped "Nothing is harder to stop than an idea whose time has come to pass". A real megablast of sound and colour that will last long in the memory.
