After 3 months in TOP10 TH on Beatport with releases 'Sheeta' and 'Rondo', Clarisse’s sixth release of the year takes up the baton from Kiko & Spencer K’s steadfast jam ‘Rondo’ and hands the pitcher’s mitt to London governor Ross Evans. Releases on Cocoon, Saved, Mobilee, Suara, Noir Music, Cecille, Get Physical and Toolroom Records have cemented a status part created by a spell-checking alter-ego, releasing a series of EPs as Ross Evana, on top of masterminding the Familia Recordings label and performing under the alias of Kos.

After a year reeling off a dexterous index of deep tech sounds, ‘Curve Ball’ is a straight shot of pure tribal marked with bass drum elastic. A faint, spoken murmur in the background attempts to direct dancefloor traffic – even if the white gloves are all you see - and though there are passing elements attempting to intervene – fragments of knob-twiddling static and dub effects, and beamed chords leading to a perfectly placed breakdown – Evans is so far in the zone that he becomes an irresistible force.

The remix from Clarisse’s Mendo and Swiss spinner Yvan Genkins is a tech-tipped order to go hard until you’ve run yourself into the ground. Powered by rougher drums, headset commands, thrusting hi-hats and a singularly plucked metallic chord bulging in the dark, these regular teammates on the ones and twos hand out the equivalent of running extra laps if the original caught you flagging. The techno duet is the pair’s latest collaboration after previous time spent sparring on Defected, Nic Fanciulli’s Saved Records – another label receiving Evans’ input this year – and of course, Clarisse.

A second mover purveying patience under dimmed lights is deep house tester ‘Myriad’, seeing Evans taking it back and jacking with a firm, Detroit rhythm burying bass low into the mix. A strictly controlled exercise in keeping focus, steadily lifts itself when rays of light peer through from the perimeter. Programming a vocal loop into a guiding hologram and adding classic chord stabs opens up what is a watertight beat, and gives ‘Myriad’ a generous amount of underlying swing to keep clubbers glued below the booth.

Created in 2003, Clarisse Records illustrates Mendo’s vision of electronic music. Releasing regularly his heartcrushes produced by strongly established internationally known artists or helping newcomers who deserve to be highlighted on the scene.
