YOURI DE GROOTE - PRINCE PURPLE RAIN - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 29, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
When I was a veeeery little kid, me and my family we moved to U.S.A.. My dad had a new job there. New life, new friends, new everything. In 1984, during a night, we went to see "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and right after, we pushed another door, in the dark (like thieves, without paying!!!) and we saw "The Gremlins". The same night or so I heard about an artist called "Prince" and his "Purple rain". As a little kid I did not understand the meaning of this Purple rain... But, in a certain way it obsessed me, because of the image/imagination a little boy can have. The same night, I discovered American Ice Cream!!! That was huge. So, in just one night I had several different feelings and was high on emotion. About 10 years later, I began guitar, and inside one of the first Guitar magazine I bought there was the transcription of a song called "Purple Rain"... I learned the chords, and for those who also tried, these chords are really hard to play cleanly, when you are a beginner. Then, we went on holiday, and on the road to go home, late in the night, my dad was listening to the radio and there was a song called "Purple rain" and my he said "What a good song" and I proudly said "I can play it dad! (barely...)" - "Really?" - "Yeaaah!". We arrived, and it was, like 2 a.m. and while I was preparing myself to go to bed, my dad entered into my bedroom and asked "Could you play me the song we talked about?". I played it, not very well and my dad smiled & said "Ok, thank you, good night". Years later, I bought my first dvd player, and the first DVDs I bought were the movies "Excalibur" and "Purple Rain". Obviously, everyone has personal stories with songs. Now Prince is in heaven, with my dad. I hope my dad will talk to him about this beautiful song. I couldn't sleep well these days, ...and always had that song's melodies in my head. So I played, and taped it...
