Trust - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 21, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
I wrote a lot of music after the big earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disaster in 2012. That year was really tough for all of us in many different ways. But as the initial fear and uncertainty began to subside a little, I think a lot of people, myself included, felt a real sense of betrayal by the powers that be for letting such a tragedy become possible. However justified that feeling may be, eventually we all have to try to heal and get on with our lives. As is often the case in life after a large rupture, in order for healing to occur, we must invest trust in the very parties who we feel have wronged us. Instead of longing for an impossible return to the former state, we have to forge a new trust that allows us to move beyond the incident.

The performance is my the Mark Tourian Sextet at B Flat in Akasaka, Tokyo on October 17th, 2012.The members of the band are:

Mark Tourian bass, leader, and arranger
James Mahone alto sax
Yoshiro Okazaki trumpet
Pat Hallaran trombone
Simon Cosgrove piano
Juasa Kanoh drums
