BRONZE FUTURE: LETTERS FOR 2045

Poets and writers have always printed up their chapbooks on paper. Molina Speaks has continued his Futurist work by creating a spoken word video chapbook -- a digital diary to the future. This work is the first of its kind. Before the Bronze Future project, you might google "spoken word video chapbook" and find videos of people talking about chapbooks... but not what you might consider a spoken word video chapbook.

Bronze Future is a collection of raps, poems, letters, and reflections, each piece filmed in a unique location around the city of Denver, Colorado, including the barrios of Five Points, East Side, West Side, Elyria-Swansea, and also Commerce City and the plains just east of Denver.

The project explores Latino identity, Chicano history and future, cyborg technology, food justice, and sustainability.

This project was inspired by old school Chicano Teatro and the new school DIY (do-it-yourself) movement. Each video was filmed outside, in natural light, without a microphone or other video props. Bronze Future was filmed and co-produced by Nathan Schmit.
