Mark Doherty - The G-BEAT - Buzz Jam 2015 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 02, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Mark works with a drummer Joel Oliver, and the team including manager Ben Frith and coders Mark Durrant and Christoph Sassenberg created the G-Beats, a glove that contains sensors attached to a software that will play drum beats when the player taps his hands against a hard surface.

WHAT IS BUZZ JAM?
Buzz Jam paired teams of coders and musicians to work together over 32 hours to create six new musical instruments and perform on them.

It was described as a mix between a ‘Hack Day’ and a ‘Jam Session’, using the skills of tech and music to create, improvise and collaborate.

The event was conceived by YGN (Young Guns Network) and produced with partners We Make Awesome Sh., Red Bull Studios, Sony Music UK, Weller Media Agency and supported by funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

BuzzJam was designed to connect young music industry professionals with the tech community to explore the concept of adding another art form (coding) into the creative process. Having artists involved in the hack day and performing the collaboration at the end is a completely new idea in the tech world.

The hack had an 100% success rate, with all the teams managing to produce a performance at the end.

Some of the inventions will be performed again in the future, and we hope other artists, managers and developers will be inspired to collaborate on similar projects.
