White Line Allstars push all the right buttons, both in the studio and in your face, insisting a sound at once fierce and refined. It should come as no surprise that the band's core architects are both luminaries in their respective fields. J. Scott G. weaves the genre-defining experience of electronic legends Deepsky into the mix, while Kevin131 cleaves the sound like a butcher possessed, arcing sonic welds through the sweaty flesh of an orgy gone dark. This is music you taste as much as hear, a complete arsenal of sensory extravagance to complement any good time.



None of this comes as much of a surprise once the band's production environment is revealed. Hewn from the raw remains of an old knife factory, White Line Allstars' new studio evokes the mass/pop art production sensibilities of Andy Warhol's 1960s Factory spaces. Indeed, the massive space hasn't as much been repurposed as it has been reclaimed. While still churning out quality product at an alarming rate, the angle grinders and anvils have been replaced with walls of shiny screens, intimidating synthesizers, and candy-bright patch cables. The creative possibilities in this space are seemingly boundless, if not a little bit frightening.



Though, being unconcerned with the trivialities of convention does have its advantages. The White Line Allstars sound evokes the paranoid familiarity of a strange girl's bed, the sinister elegance of excess in a drought. Much like a binge in an unfamiliar town, it's a welcome diversion to forget how the night got started. Sometimes reckless abandon can be the catalyst for a paradigm shift, much as it is here.



White Line Allstars cut to the chase and deliver it to you raw, steaming and fresh from the kill. There's no pretension here, no affected ruse to cloud the listener's judgement. This is real. This is a force of ageless significance. This is what to watch now.
