Sounds From The Corner : Live #6 The Adams - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 11, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
You want us to play at Music Gallery? Again?"

That's right, The Adams had already been invited to play at the 2nd Music Gallery in 2012. So when the kids at University of Indonesia's Faculty of Economics called again, we couldn't help but think we either were that awesome the last time or they couldn't get the bands they really wanted so they called us instead. We hope it was the first reason.

But whatever the reason, if anyone asks us to play and we can work out an agreement that benefits all involved, then of course we'll say yes. So we said yes to the 3rd Music Gallery, especially as other great bands were scheduled to perform as well, just like last year.

We didn't have any new songs ready to go (patience!), but what we could do was put new spins on old songs. We thought it would be cool to play "Semirock", "Pijakkan" and "Halo Beni" as an extended medley. We also decided to try "Glorious Time", a song from our first album that we haven't played in a long time because the recorded, acoustic version doesn't really work in a rock show. We created a full band arrangement that sounds quite different from the original, so it's the next best thing to an actual new song.

During soundcheck we sang "Berwisata" from the v2.05 album. We hadn't performed that song in a long time, even though it always gets a great reaction from the crowd -- probably because not many rock bands do a brief a cappella tune.

Eventually we decided to put "Berwisata" just before "Hanya Kau", something we've never done before. Which is ironic, because those two songs are side-by-side on v2.05. "Hanya Kau" is one of the most-anticipated songs whenever we play, so we thought "Berwisata" would get the crowd excited, and then going straight into "Hanya Kau" would make them go nuts. That was the plan, and when we actually carried that plan out in front of the crowd, it worked like a charm. So we decided to put "Berwisata" in our Music Gallery setlist as well.

But inevitably we thought it would be cool if we could collaborate with someone. So who did we ask? We didn't have to look too far. Our friends Efek Rumah Kaca were one of the other artists performing at Music Gallery, so we gave their lead singer Cholil Mahmud a call and asked if he would like to sing "Konservatif" with us. He had previously sang onstage with other bands we love, such as Sore and Pure Saturday, and we hoped we could be among that illustrious company.

Thanks to Raja Irfan, Ghea Lestarina, Ivy Callista, Nabila Prabowo and all at 3rd Music Gallery for inviting us to play again; to Teguh Wicaksono, Dimas Wisnuwardono and the Sounds From the Corner team for documenting every moment; and to everyone who's ever loved our music and come to our shows. It's a privilege for us to have so many people enjoy what we do, even after all these years.

We hope to see you again soon, maybe even at the next Music Gallery! But if we don't see you soon, you can always see this video.
Love,
Ario, Saleh, Arfan, Retiara and Gigih
