"Power 1490" Tucson, AZ - Dance music in AM Stereo! (1995) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Mar 31, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
AM radio like you've never heard it before (or since)! From 1991 to 1995, "Power 1490" KJYK in Tucson, Arizona was a dance/hip-hop music station broadcasting in C-Quam AM Stereo. The format was groundbreaking and influential because it was not yet heard on FM at the time in Tucson and many smaller cities. The former "Power 1490" DJs held a reunion in 2010, and the station's original web site has been reconstructed at: http://www.power1490.com/home.html

This recording is from 1995 with an interesting mix of dance music (they even played "Short Short Man"!) and was received on a Realistic TM-152 AM Stereo tuner. The audio for this video came from a rather low-quality MP3 file, but I have the full original 45-minute cassette tape recording in my collection, made by the same person who provided me with the recording of 1190 WOWO in AM Stereo which has been featured on my channel since 2008.
