Our story in a nutshell. With short and simple sentences.
We grew up in a home filled with all kinds of music. Our father liked country music. He liked Jerry Reed. He loved Lynyrd Skynyrd. Our mom liked classical music and opera. They both liked Abba (of course) and choral music . We liked Eppu Normaali and Hassisen Kone. Later on, we found out about foreign bands like Rainbow, Deep Purple, Queen, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Those bands pretty much nailed it for us. I mean, our future.
We rehearsed in bomb shelters like all the other Helsinki based bands. Eventually we got to make records. We toured. But not together. We all had our own bands. Some of them became very succesful. Some of them became only succesful after we quit them. Maybe BECAUSE we quit them…
We decided on a collaboration in 2000. We rented a house in Southern India for two weeks and went through the songs. We thought they were good enough for recording.
"Experience", our debut, was released in 2001. The critics weren't too hard on us. We did three gigs. The last one was alright. Actually, this was crucial, because it left a good feeling about the project. Nevertheless, we continued with our own separate lives.
We saw each other again in Egypt in 2004. We went there to snorkel (mom and dad) and to dive (us). A family holiday. We went through some demos of a bunch of new songs and thought they were even better than the previous ones. None of us played in any other bands anymore. So we decided to risk our relations and make another album… This time with a little more ambition and effort. We asked Kuoppis to do the drumming for it, because the "drummer dude" among us brothers had become the "singing dude."
Our second album "Approach" was released by Dynasty Recordings in May 2006. To our surprise, it went to number 7 on the sales chart. The first single "Let Thy Will be Done" had obviously increased the interest for our music, and the reviews had been very positive. The band got two new members, Juha (keyboards) and Kaakkuri (drums). The album stayed on the chart for 21 continuous weeks peaking at number 5. It went gold and was awarded a Finnish Grammy for "Best Rock Album of 2006". We got a lot of gigs in Finland and a few abroad. Some might call it a small breakthrough.
"Love Remains the Same" was released in May 2008. It went straight to number 1. It Stayed there for three weeks. We thought that was wicked. The Finnish summer was horrible weatherwise but we had fun playing lots of festivals, Including Roskilde in Denmark, which was like a dream come true… A happy dream turned into a smallish nightmare, because it really wasn't the best gig ever. Anyway, the album lingered on the sales charts and went gold. Recently, it was nominated for a Grammy as the "Best Rock Album of 2008". The band was also nominated as the "Best Band of 2008".
Now we're trying to find people who could work with us abroad. If you dig our music and understand our mission, let us know. Thanks. - vHb
