The Romanze in A-flat, K. Anh. 205 is written for fortepiano solo. It was never included in Breitkopf and Härtels' first edition of Mozart, and neither Mozart’s widow Constanze nor his son were able to verify the piece as an authentic work of Mozart. Nevertheless, it was first published in 1802 under Mozart’s name by Mollo in Vienna, and later by Kühnel in 1807. Some experts have conjectured that the piece is based on a fragment of chamber music of Mozart that was originally intended for fortepiano and four wind instruments, and was completed by Maximilian Stadler after Mozart’s death. Since it is presumably based on chamber music, Gwendolyn Toth here arranged it for clarinet and fortepiano.
