DESCRIPTION:
"The Birth of George" is a chamber opera loosely structured after Phillip K Dick's novel UBIK. Music and libretto were written by David Simons and Lisa Karrer, and the workshop performance premiered at LaMama in NYC 1997, directed by Bob McGrath. The ensemble of 9 musicians and 9 vocalists was led by Greg Pliska.

This video, parts 1 and 2, contains excerpts of most of the pieces. But a few years later a fine studio recording was made of the complete opera - thanks to the Aaron Copland Fund - and released in 2003 on Harvestworks' TELLUS label, conducted by Yvonne Hicks. The Birth of George was co-produced by American Opera Projects, Harvestworks and La Mama theater.
