I'm sorry there aren't any Audio Samples of either as I have not made my decision, obviously! If you are looking for an actual comparison there isn't one here, My apologies!

Because I do not wish to use my Tascam US-1641 anymore as it has given me so many terrible problems and Tascam does not care about their customer base. I am in desperate need of upgrading to a new Audio Interface... It has to be Firewire 800 or Thunderbolt (although my iMac does not have Thunderbolt, whereas my MacBook Pro does).

I do not wish to go with Apogee's Ensemble as it is a discontinued product and does not have as many Line Inputs for outboard Preamps.

I have been in love with the UA Apollo Duo since it was announced, however, I am also hesitant as it is a new unit and I haven't heard enough about it... There has to be problems with them... no product is infallible... post the negatives please! It also only allows for 8 Analog Inputs (and 8-10 Digital Ins).

The RME Fireface 800 has been around for years... I don't know much about it other that it is tried, tested, and true! It also allows for a lot of Analog Inputs.

Looking around on forums you can't really get a straight answer on which might be better or what true problems each has. I've heard about Word Clock and Adat Blinking Light issues and Output issues on the RME whereas I've heard one story about processing issues with the Apollo where the guy was on the phone with them constantly... he has an older duo core 2.4ghz processor... I have a brand new MacBook Pro Retina 15" with quad core i7 2.3ghz and 16gb of Ram... probably not an issue at all!

Post your comments and thoughts on either to help me make my decision!! If you have used one or the other or both post the pros and cons and what problems you have had with each.

I will be using primarily external Preamps and will be getting an API LUNCHBOX along with a Lindell Audio 6x-500 and possibly an API 512c (if I get the RME).
