A sweet 6 -piece from Helsinki. Orchestral wall of sound - art rock - indie pop - you name it. Not the official biography but a quick introduction here--
The current line-up since 2004, but the first steps were taken in the turn of the century.
Olli Waris says it all: (www.newmusiccommunity.org interview)
"In the very beginning, 1999, there were two young men called Okko and Tomi. Then a young fellow called Jussi joined them. Pretty soon a young curly-haired guy Olli came along. In 2002 almost as young a man Sampo joined the boys. And after a while a young and a very tall guy called Matti Olavi Töyli jumped in. Suddenly everything was in its right place. The common goal was to… party like hell and get some chicks! Not really! The goal was to make unique pop music that touches every living creature in this planet.
One journalist said: “Underwater Sleeping Society often sounds like Radiohead forgotten in the 60s”. Supposedly that was a good way to put it. There are influences from modern pop/rock and from the 60s and 70s. Besides Radiohead, most of us like also bands/artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Flaming Lips, Nick Drake… To call it “just” indie rock sounds pretty lame and a bit too fashionable. We'd like to think that it is timeless pop music."
The latest full-lenght album is titled The Dead Vegas, mixed by Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm, Mattias Nyberg and Hans Olsson and mastered
by Fred Kevorkian.

‘The Dead Vegas’ is an effective collection of bittersweet indie pop songs, rich on Weltschmerz and touching on the same indie nerve as UK acts like Editors and Doves with peaks in grandiose ‘Counting Stars’, semi-psychedelic ballad ‘Body Blues’ with its spacey chorus and power-pop gem ‘Painting The Dead’.
.Until another such band prove otherwise, they will be “the” Finnish indie band in this book. -Peter Krogholm, All Scandinavian.com
