Rog & Pip War Lord, UK 1971. Taken from forthcoming Rise Above Relics release -- Our Revolution.

Guitarist Roger Lomas and Singer/Guitarist Pip Whitcher were members of Coventry freakbeat legends The Sorrows. Along with the other remaining members of the band they relocated to Italy in the late 60's due to huge popularity over there. Homesick, the pair returned back to the UK before the swinging decade was even over.
The pair continued writing material together, eventually becoming a partnership lasting (under various guises) well into the 70's. Future Bad Manners, Selecter and Grammy award winning producer Lomas was a man obsessed with sound effects and distorted heavy guitars, as can be witnessed on some of the later Sorrows material and his in between studio project known as The Eggy, whose sole 45 You're Still Mine is now a collectors piece in its own right.
From a Window is a killing slab of proto-metal/hard rock that did not see a UK release and was only available in Spain and Germany with two variant sleeves. The Spanish sleeve is particularly hilarious, with the topless pair displaying beards grown especially to annoy potential record company execs. Hardly a commercial exercise then, when you also throw the 'band name' into the equation.
B-Side War Lord is the real ripper here; Whitcher's pre-punk screaming vocals combined with Lomas' super distorted, hard & heavy Sabbath/Zep style riffing make this long lost nugget definitely worth seeking out.
As well as releasing a handful of singles under names such as Renegade & Zips, their writing partnership pretty much allowed them free reign over state of the art studios of the time such as Air. With the producer's chair at the forefront of his mind, thankfully Lomas was smart enough to keep tapes of everything they recorded -- the fruits of which will finally be available to hear in March year on Rise Above Relics Records. Titled Our Revolution, it features detailed sleevenotes, unseen photo's and, of course, many unheard tracks!
