UK Based Techno producer best known by his work on the Belgium based Token Records and who's style ranges from gritty minimal techno to Detroit influenced material. His debut "Module Overload" was released on London's Lost/Cosmic records in 2000, and was followed by a string of productions for London's Surface/Inceptive Records and Ben Sims Ingoma imprint. The move to Token came in 2007, he shortly after began DJing professionally and has since performed at parties across the globe. His continued works have seen constant support throughout the techno world and have featured in CD mixes by Robert Hood, François Kevorkian and Dave Clarke amongst others…

Alongside his production work Phase is also a Mastering engineer and on/off artwork designer. Starting out at London's prestigious Sony Music/Whitfield Street Studios, he has cut records for numerous underground dance acts as well as working on projects for mainstream artists.

independent profile comments:
Alex Downey - May-09:
A release from Phase always seems to rise to the top of the
pile. I would say that Ashley is one of the few producers who really
understands the subtlety, dynamics, complexity and energy of purist techno
and implicitly manges to execute it with finesse almost every time.
Minimalist tracks with a serious prescence and relentless pulse that refuses
to stay static. It's heads down for some deadly dancefloor action. Only bad
thing about this is deciding which cut to play.

One of the most interesting London-based artists; his productions are very deep and intense - they could be given as a perfect example of pure "minimal techno" definition. His style has something in common with Steve Bicknell - both of them produce hypnotic, stripped-down music. However, it's impossible not to notice basic differences between their stuff. The only problem with mr Burchett is that he doesn't release new ep's very often, which is a pity. Fortunately, his upcoming "Timespace?" on Inceptive is brilliant and I am sure his ["Espresso"] release on Theory 29 will be perfect as well.

Phase's debut for Cosmic ["Module Overload"] is probably one of the most stunning and original pieces of 'sci-fi' techno that I've ever had the fortune to come across. I'd be hard pressed to find another techno record that features the depth and gravity contained within this piece of wax.
B1 is the pick of the bunch, a heavy chugger that throbs along with flashes of cascading drums and futuristic pitches and drones. It's as though Phase has made this with the Lost dancefloor in mind. I can certainly listen/look back with fond memories as musical hypnosis set in when Bicknell dropped this on the floor at Lost
