DESCRIPTION:
This is a very scarce early Lambert Indestructible 2 minute cylinder record featuring Cal Stewart (1856-1919) as Uncle Josh Weathersby with "Last Day Of School At Punkin Center". Lambert cylinder records were produced in very limited quantity between 1901 and about 1905 when legal battles forced the small company to cease production. Their crisp, clear recordings (only 2 minute cylinders) were a joy to hear and the innovative, lightweight construction of their cylinders was clearly well ahead of other contemporary record manufacturers. It's always interesting to hear Cal Stewart singing as he does on this recording since he rarely did this in his 23 years of recording. Also note the incredibly clear harmonica playing about midway in the cylinder. I played this on one of my Edison Fireside phonographs with an oak horn.
