TV GLORY
Untroubled by trends and bandwagons, these illegitimate sons of Bowie, Byrne and Mark E Smith serve up with nonchalance a timeless music that strikes a resonant chord in today's landscape.
Citing the Talking Heads as well as the Beach Boys, the Kinks as well as Hot Chip, these four young men from Lille in the North of France like to distinguish themselves thanks to their good taste. Indeed, the three founder members of the group – Tony, Tom and Laurent – began perfecting their musical recipes in a requisitioned kitchen. Two guitars, bass drum, snare and hi-hat for rehearsals à la Sister Ray again; clanging and jingling and singing their hearts out.
In late summer 2008, Olivier arrived with his Fender bass and the group moved into a basement. Gradually, a new groove took hold as Tom employed electronic beats to overhaul his drumkit. Juno 106, Roland SH09, TR 707 and LinnDrum joined in unison to transform the « Tony Verloc & The Glory » sound into TV GLORY. As the musical barriers fell, a fresh dimension was born; intrepidly futuristic in its essence. One constant ingredient remains: the songs. Written by Tony and sauced-up by the four musicians together, the songs are the backbone of the group, feeding the hand that bites the listener.
TV GLORY like Daft Punk and LCD Sound System as much as they revere Steely Dan and the Tom Tom Club. They admire Stevie Wonder and David Gedge too. They purvey songs with a groove, with guitars and old sound machines on the very edge of decrepitude. This fragility is disconcerting and frightening, much like life itself, as reflected in the songs belted out by their four tremulous voices.
"Our music sounds pretty contemporary, yet in fact it's quite hard to pin down when these songs might have been written: 1978? 1999? 2020?" Tony Verloc in Chaos magazine – NYC, June 2009
