A Dutch Surfer - on a solo mission - to raise awareness - for the sea he loves and how he became The plastic Soup Surfer.
A long distance record attempt on a self-made surfboard from washed up plastic waste.
When he started his 350 kilometer expedition on his DIY surfboard from plastic waste - found on his local beach of Noordwijk- he was still an visual artist. When he got of the board -exhausted- he was reborn and an plastic soup activist : he calls himself: the Plastic Soup Surfer

Plastic litter does not biodegrade. it breaks down into even smaller pieces increasing the environmental impact killing 100.000 sea mammals and 1.000.000 sea birds each year...
8.000.000.000 kg of plastic spills into our seas and oceans each year.
the plastic soup board is heavy- 15 kg in total...still Merijn plans to surf it.. from Belgium to Germany along the entire Dutch coastline
Day one : Knokke to Katwijk (135 km)
Day two: Katwijk toTerschelling (158 km)
Day three ... exhausted and injured.. 35 km ... he gives up ... not reaching his goal the German island of Borkum.
