Penny Dreadful // Finale Opening Song (Cover) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 31, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
--- LYRICS/CHORDS BELOW ---

In the finale of Penny Dreadful, this lullaby is played over the opening credits instead of the usual soundtrack. Unlike the rest of the OST which was composed by Abel Korzeniowski, this song appears to have been composed by Tom Kitt and sung by Sophie Meade.

For my cover I stuck to the guitar and added a second voice although I was tempted to do some percussion as well.

I didn't find chords so figured them out myself. Feel free to use them for your own versions and let me know :)

(I put a capo on 1 but in the original version there's none.)

LYRICS/CHORDS:

------Am
When I was young
------Am
And scared of the world
------Dm------------------------------Am
My mother would sing me a song
---Am-----------------------------Am
A tune that I keep in a sacred place
-------------Dm------------------------------------Am
cause I know that my life won't be long
----F------------------------------------------C
It tells of the place where you go
------------------Dm------------------------------Am
When your time here on earth is through
----F------------------------------------C
A beautiful place we call heaven
------Em
Is it true
-----------------------------------------Am
Please God I pray that it's true

'Cause once this land was heaven on Earth
Green hills were all you could see
But now it's soot and steel and brick
So it looks more like hell to me
And each day brings more and more suffering
And each night is silence and fear
And I wake to the sound of your voice
But you're not here
Why aren't you here?

So now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
Please let me die before I wake
So the Lord my soul, can take
Then maybe I'll finally find you
'Midst the beauty of paradise
And you'll sing not of dying
But living
Wouldn't that be nice?
Wouldn't that be nice?
