"Mockingbird" is a 1963 song written and recorded by Inez and Charlie Foxx, covered about a decade later by Carly Simon and James Taylor in a 1974 single from Simon's Hotcakes album.

The original single was billed to Inez Foxx with vocal accompaniment by her brother Charlie, as they traded off the lyric on a syllabic basis. Considered something of a novelty song, it was a big hit for Symbol Records, reaching number 2 on the U.S. R&B chart and number 7 on the U.S. pop singles chart in late 1963. In the UK the song was released the same year by Island Records as the company's first single on their Sue label.

The Simon-Taylor remake, released on Elektra Records and featuring some additional lyrics credit by Taylor, was also quite the success, hitting number 5 on the U.S. pop chart in early 1974. A few years later it became a high point of the No Nukes film, as Simon began her part off-stage and then bounded on, trading notes all the time.

Other versions have been instantiated by Dusty Springfield and in 2004 by country music artist Toby Keith, featuring his daughter, Krystal. Keith's version was a #27 on the Hot Country Songs charts that year. And now Sam Harris and Todd Schroeder attempt their first duet of the song.
