Saved Records welcome French DJ, producer and all-round club aficionado Timid Boy into the fray with his subtle yet brilliant distinctive EP. Test Test EP sees him settling into the kind of bass-driven, underground focused techno sound that he reveled in as resident for Rex club in Paris.

A simple but addictive bassline provides the backbone to “Test Test” a track that ebbs and flows with fluid progression. Working a lush groove into the mix, Timid Boy creates a bottom end full of depth and personality. Punchy drums and clicking percussion bring a purposeful tempo without detracting any of the track’s personality or charm.

“I can Do It” is an altogether more frenetic cut. Rapid-fire rhythms permeate the upper crust as a jagged bassline ploughs along below. Driven by rolling bass and flickering FX, the track chugs away with relentless energy and unshifting confidence.

Moving into highly hypnotic and almost surreal textures with “The Girl” we are sucked further into the subterranean soundscape of timid boy. Subtle melodic flickers sketch over the pulsating drive of the track, interplaying perfectly with the enigmatic vocals from French singer-songwriter and actor Arnaud Lellouche, aka Arno Joey. Showing a deft ability for escalating the intensity without blowing the top off, Timid Boy finds a wonderfully unique way to round off his highly impressive EP.
