Reboshaze - Finale (1981) - Video

DESCRIPTION:
This delightful and unique rare private pressing from Sydney is an EMI Custom pressing released on Jesart Enterprises in 1981. There is virtually no information of this album anywhere on the net. Judging by the quasi-illegible hand-written album details on the rear cover, this album seems to have been primarily a studio project with all music composed and written by a mysterious musician named Richard Barros. Richard plays all instruments - keyboards, piano, guitar, bass and sings lead vocals - except for the drums, backing female/male vocals and bass guitar on the track ‘Finale’.

Musically, the sound on the album is quite interesting and unique: it is primarily a late-70's sounding pop / rock album, with a mixture of floating acoustic-driven rock and up-tempo numbers with crunchy guitars and gospel backing vocals. The best songs on this album however are the softer numbers, which have dreamy atmosphere with a huge sense of space between the chords - best exemplified in songs such as the tranquil, piano-driven 'Finale' and the brilliant midnight blue eyed soul of ‘2nd Movement’. Furthermore, there is a definite underlying Progressive / Art Rock influence: some songs are 6 to 7 minutes long; the whole album is divided into musical suites; and there is a Pink Floyd-influenced time and space with long sections of floating improvisation – a pervasive Pink Floyd ‘The Wall’ influence is highly noticeable. However, the music is created with a peculiar and naive 'private press' sensibility and imperfection. The only annoyance would have to be the ‘New Wave’ drum sound, which has an 80's-styled, highly compressed timbre and is mixed loud in the mix. They can be quite protruding and over-powering to the ear at times.
