Let's star with the name. The Night of Gaueko. Gaueko, in basque mythology, is the spirit of the night and deity of darkness. The name Gaueko comes from "Euskara" or Basque language and it means "The one of the night" literally. It is represented as a black wolf "Otso beltza" or "Otsobeltza", though it is a zoomorphic being.

About the tune. This is a version of the traditional basque tune called "Aita san miguel" or "Ezpatadantza - Banangoa" because it is the name of the dance where the trad. tune is played to dance to. The "Ezpatadantza" is also a basque traditional dance . Its name means dance of the swords and it is devided in diverse parts, one of them the "banangoa", which means The single (Dance).

See a video of the dance here: http://youtu.be/HVDc00FAjBI?t=38s

The traditional tune is written in G (SOL) major but I changed it to a A (LA) minor so as to manage to record the alboka on the track and also to give the track the dark touch I wanted. I also arranged some new melodies and rearranged some of the existing ones. About the time signature, It must be said that this piece is a bit complex. It uses mixed meters of 3/4 and 6/8 which became a huge problem when I started the recordings. I'm not a Cubase master...

About the recordings and instruments: You can expect lots of real instruments G tuned low whistle, D tuned tin and low whistles, plenty of powerful alboka and pandero. Doubling fidules, txalaparta, harp and thunderous drums are also on the way!
