The multi-talented Mr. Gates arranging for the multi-talented Mr. Newley!
After a string of hits on UK Decca through 1962, including a #1 with a cover of Frankie Avalon's "Why", Anthony Newly landed at RCA in 1966. In between, he had co-written the theme from "Goldfinger" and "What Kind Of Fool Am I" among many other achievements.
Almost as if not to be outdone, David Gates was a successful, songwriter, session player, arranger, producer and label exec by 1966. His diversity knew no bounds, given that in the same year, he wrote and produced "Moonchild" for Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band on A&M!
So, we get a disc that gives a nod to PJ Proby and was issued as the b-side of "Why Can't You Try To Didgeridoo", a title reflecting the humor that Anthony Newley brought to a number of his songs.
