THE VIVIANS TO RELEASE 10TH ANNIVERSARY ALBUM

To mark their 10th anniversary of forming, cult indie punk band The Vivians will release a collection of songs spanning their tumultuous career. The self-titled album, released 27th August 2016, will comprise newly mastered unreleased demos and rarities, recorded between 2006 and 2010, accompanied by a new video and artwork.

Formed in August 2006, The Vivians dared to dream big and set out to achieve great things. From their humble beginnings in a basement rehearsal room in Edinburgh, through to splitting in April 2010, the band’s story is one of dreams, misguidance and brotherhood.

After less than a year together, they were hotly tipped from a new wave of breaking bands in Scotland championed by the likes of Vic Galloway (BBC Scotland) and Jim Gellatly (XFM). Acclaimed performances at T-In The Park and UK tours quickly followed before The Vivians moved base to London upon signing their first record deal.

Debut single ‘A Human Angle’ was released in July 2008 and gained them many new fans, including Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio). However, following the release, the band felt their career wasn’t progressing as they had anticipated, so they made the decision to part ways with their management and record label.

In regaining control, The Vivians secured a deal to release their next single ‘Just Two Girls’ through Too Pure, a sub-label in the Beggars Group. The track was a huge success, being listed on many 2009 Song of The Year reviews, with further additions to the XFM, NME and BBC radio playlists amongst others.

While eager to build on this momentum and looking to secure a deal to release a debut album, The Vivians were approached by producer Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) who travelled to watch the band in London, and subsequently offered his services.

Before they could embark on this next chapter, tensions in the band culminated in an acrimonious split. They did however pull together for one last gig, supporting long time heroes the New York Dolls at Koko in Camden on 19th April 2010 – it was a glorious ending to a bittersweet story that captured the imagination of many.

Ten years on from the band’s formation, The Vivians will make much of their back catalogue available for the first time by self-releasing this album. Their songs encapsulate issues of love, life and rebellion, and for the many fans, the album will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane. For others, it’s an opportunity to experience the musical journey of a breaking band, whose passion and punk spirit ultimately tore them apart. The joie de vivre is the question of what might have been.
