Sounds From The Corner : Live #1 The Upstairs - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 16, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
"Engkau berdarah-darah, dari Antah Berantah!"

The very first thought of Jimi Multhazam when establishing The Upstairs in early 2000 in Jakarta was, "let's make something we hate all this time. Let's make the snare wet, let's make people dance." Surprisingly, their influence was Punk, Hardcore and Metal. Far from New Wave and all of those glam and shiny stuff. Beni - the drummer - even thought that the band's concept with the costumes and performance was ridiculous. But in the end, their courage bring them into a whole another planet called success.

In their early days, The Upstairs had perfect momentum. Early 2000, Jakarta's music scene is burning. People are hungry for fresh and kicking tunes. And suddenly, a group of people came into the stage wearing ravy pants and raising eyebrow outfits are leading the crowd. They instantly rule the pubs with small intimate gigs. People were bewitched with smart & funny lyrics, dirty mouth and exploding dancy music.

"Canvases are plain and limited. I feel that i am painting through words, through my lyrics. Without any borders and boundaries," said JImi explaining about his song writing in the band.

Soon after they grew bigger, Energi - the band's first (maybe also last?) major album - was released under Warner Music Indonesia. It was SO big that you could find little Jimis in every gig you went. Every kid in town wear shocking pants, mullet hair style and doing that quirky dance moves. Modern Darling, that's what they called. After Energi, Magnet! Magnet! is released next. A more rock, raw and rebel album. My personal favorites in this album are "Percakapan" & "Di antara Haluan".

This video is recorded in their 4th album launch in Demajors, Gandaria. "Katalika is a 'neat' album," said Pandu Fuzztoni. "This time Beni is in-charge as producer. He is a perfectionist and more poppish, so i guarantee that this album will give a different experience of The Upstairs.

Indeed, Katalika is as exciting as seeing The Upstairs is back into the game again. Plus, this time is a little bit different from us; a LIVE session.Three songs for you guys; Antah Berantah, Matraman & Sekelebat Menghilang. Enjoy! -TW
