“We definitely feel like we have our backs against the wall here. We have something to prove… Not just as a band but as human beings. Something is all wrong here” Thomas Løppenthin of The Unit explains. “We feel like we’re at GUNPOINT”.

Back in 2001 The Unit emerged from a rehearsal room somewhere in Copenhagen to release two 7 inch records that became instant Play/Rec classics to anyone who heard them. Danish underground press was raving about this newly discovered garage/punk rock gem.

In 2004 the band recorded their debut album "White Night" in only five intense days in the Copenhagen’s renowned Black Tornado Studios. The name of the studio seemed only fitting to the album’s overall expression. The record is hard and unpolished but in the midst of its black-hearted atmosphere lays a fragility that makes the record burn a mark in the listeners’ consciousness.

“The Unit have delivered some of the sharpest and dirtiest mixtures of Punk and angry 60’s beat in Denmark in many years. Thomas Løppenthin delivers a savaging blowtorch vocal that does not let it self tame easily. This man is possessed! He does not sing with his lungs, tongue or midriff – but he sings with the inside of his undisguised soul, that rages against boredom, hopelessness and mediocrity as a hurricane in the fall” – GEIGER (DK)

“The Unit is playing as if their lives were on stake on this very energetic record. A very, very good debut that brings great promises for the future” – FHM (DK)

"You have to be emotionally numb not to feel how the music is pulling at your heartstrings on this release … It’s a tight, packed, nitrogen bomb of a record” – UNDERTONER (DK)

In the aftermath of "White Night" the band shared stages with bands like UK Subs and Baby Woodrose. They also toured Germany and Benelux stirring up quite some noise south of the border by and in the summer of 2006 they could finally see a lifelong dream come true when they appeared at the Roskilde Festival.

Directly after their blow-away Roskilde appearance The Unit disappeared into the quiet Swedish woods to record their forthcoming album "Gunpoint". This album takes the band someplace new and exciting while keeping in touch with the roots they evolved from. "Gunpoint" is, in lead singer Løppenthin’s words from the album title track:

”Atomic Fueled, Alien Operated and Dangerous like 50 jealous boyfriends”.

The lyrics are filled to brim with themes like distrust, jealousy, shame, adultery and apocalyptic visions of a world gone mad. This is the sound of a band cornered against the world. It’s also about love. It’s also funny as hell. Cut down to the bone this is Loud Black Hearted Soul Music for the 21st Century.

"Gunpoint" is out now in Denmark

"Gunpoint" release in the rest of Europe March 2007.
