http://www.quartetpromusica.co.uk - This is a broadcast recording from Quartet Pro Musica from the early 1960's of Tippett's String Quartet No 3. The quartet were very fortunate to have been coached by Sir MIchael Tippett in the late 1950's.

Quartet Pro Musica was formed in 1955. The quartet's original players, all former students at the Royal Academy of Music, were Patrick Halling (today's leader and 1st violin), his brother, the cellist Peter Halling, Roger Raphael & Peter Sermon. Michael Tippett coached the quartet in their early days. In 1957-8, Ernest Scott and Gwynne Edwards joined, & it was during the ensuing period that the quartet was involved in many highly acclaimed recitals and recordings for the BBC.

The current quartet, Pat, Keith Lewis, Richard Cookson & Myrtle Bruce-Mitford, continue to play an ever-widening repertoire, with particular emphasis on English music as well as contemporary composers.
